Former actor killed trying to stop thieves

LOS ANGELES, CA – Former “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor was tragically shot in downtown Los Angeles early Saturday morning while attempting to thwart a theft, according to his agent and local reports.

Wactor, known for his role as Brando Corbin on the long-running soap opera, was leaving work when the incident occurred. His mother, Scarlett Wactor, shared that her son had been walking with a coworker after finishing his shift at a rooftop bar. They noticed an individual appearing to tamper with a vehicle, which led Johnny to approach, thinking his car was being towed.

As Wactor neared, the suspect opened fire, according to Scarlett Wactor. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the shooting took place around 3:25 a.m. PT. Officer Tony Im stated that three men were attempting to steal a catalytic converter when Wactor intervened. One of the suspects then pulled out a firearm and shot him before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Wactor was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His agent, David Shaul, described him as not only a dedicated actor but also a person of high moral character. “Johnny was a spectacular human being who embodied hard work and tenacity,” Shaul said. “He would literally give you the shirt off his back. Our time with Johnny was a privilege we would wish on everyone.”

The LAPD has not officially confirmed Wactor as the victim, but his mother and agent have corroborated the tragic news. Wactor’s career included notable roles in “General Hospital” from 2020 to 2022, as well as appearances in “Criminal Minds” and “Siberia.”

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing as authorities continue to search for the suspects involved.
