Former Army Ranger tries to kill woman with crossbow

EVANSVILLE, IN – Joshua Huff, a 43-year-old man from Evansville, is being held on charges of attempted murder and drug possession. The incident occurred late on Friday night when the Evansville Police Department responded to an emergency call from a woman and her adult son, who reported that Huff was firing a crossbow at them.

The responding officers successfully isolated the house and ensured the safety of the victims. Soon after, Huff surrendered himself to the police.

Authorities say the altercation began with an argument between Huff and the female victim in the afternoon. Later, the woman and her son returned to the residence on Pollack Avenue to collect personal items. Upon their arrival, they allege Huff drew a crossbow and aimed it at them, subsequently pulling the trigger.

The victims recall hearing the projectile fire from the weapon and narrowly missing the woman’s son. As they sought a secure location, they reported hearing a second arrow discharge from Huff’s crossbow. The victims then contacted emergency services and awaited police assistance on site.

When law officials arrived, they discovered a crossbow and a glass smoking pipe that contained meth residue. Further records indicate that Huff is a former Army Ranger with Special Ops training and is currently on parole from Marathon County, Wisconsin for Reckless Homicide and Delivery of Heroin.
