Former college hockey players killed in murder-suicide

MIAMI, FL – An alleged murder-suicide that took place on Saturday involving three people at a condominium complex in Southwest Miami-Dade, Florida, has left two women dead, both former hockey players at New England College. The victims have been identified as Meghan Moore and Sidney Capolino.

According to Miami-Dade Police, the shooting commenced outside Moore’s apartment with the assailant, 40-year-old Luis Napoles, firing at Moore. He then proceeded to shoot Capolino inside the apartment, before committing suicide.

Investigative claims suggest that Napoles and Moore were possibly in a relationship and shared their living arrangements. A brother of Moore indicated that Napoles was an acquaintance from work. Friends of Moore further explained Napoles was fixated on her.

Moore, a 2021 graduate, and Capolino, a 2022 graduate, were associates from their time spent playing women’s hockey at New England College, located in Henniker, New Hampshire. Moore had been a member of the Barnstable High School hockey team and hailed from Barnstable, Massachusetts, while Capolino was a Pawling, New York native.

Reacting to the loss of the two former students, New England College issued a statement expressing deep sorrow and extending support to the friends and families of the victims. Counseling service provisions have also been set up for students.

Barnstable Public Schools Superintendent Sara Ahern commemorated Moore’s high-spirited personality and her role as a Girl’s Ice Hockey Player in a heartfelt statement.
