Former NFL star arrested on second drug offense this year

CHARLOTTE, NC – Former Kansas City Chiefs player, Bashaud Breeland, was taken into custody this past weekend, marking his second arrest within a year. The former defensive back was apprehended on drug-related charges after local law enforcement found illicit substances and several firearms in his possession.

According to local reports, officers were assaulted during the arrest process. Breeland, who had previously intercepted a pass during Super Bowl LIV, now faces a series of serious charges. These include felony drug charges, assaulting a government official, resisting arrest, and causing damage to personal property.

Authorities revealed that the substances found included marijuana, a bag of mushrooms, five bottles of promethazine hydrochloride, typically used for motion sickness, and dihydrocodeine bitartrate, a synthetic opioid used for pain management.

Breeland’s previous arrest in August was also on serious charges. The Super Bowl champion was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, firearms, and drugs, totaling eight counts. These included altering serial numbers and a title. At the time, he was allegedly found with two AR-15s, two AK-47s, five pounds of marijuana, and 62 grams of mushrooms in a stolen Mercedes SUV.

Breeland was initially drafted by Washington in the fourth round in 2014 after playing at Clemson. He spent four seasons with Washington, a year with the Green Bay Packers, and two seasons with the Chiefs. His most recent stint was with the Minnesota Vikings during the 2021 season. Although he signed with the Arizona Cardinals practice squad in early 2022, he never played a game for the team.

Throughout his career, Breeland has intercepted 16 passes, including one from Jimmy Garoppolo during the Super Bowl.
