Four killed and a dozen injured in rally car race accident

LABATLAN, HUNGARY – A tragic event unfolded at a Hungarian rally car race on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of four spectators and injuries to eight others, according to local law enforcement.

The unfortunate incident took place during a race between the towns of Labatlan and Bajot, situated near the Danube River in northwest Hungary. The Komarom-Esztergom County police issued a statement confirming the accident.

Among the injured, two individuals, including a child, suffered serious injuries. The other six victims, one of whom is also a child, sustained less severe injuries and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital.

Eyewitness accounts from social media revealed that a car lost control and veered into a group of spectators. The race was immediately halted and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident was initiated by the police.

The Arrabona Rally Club, the Hungarian organization behind the event, confirmed via social media that medical personnel were swiftly on the scene to assist the injured.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time a rally car race in Hungary has been marred by such a catastrophic incident. In 2013, a similar event led to injuries for six spectators. More recently, in 2019, 11 people were injured, and in 2022, a spectator lost their life in a comparable accident.
