Four migrants arrested for armed robbery in Chicago

CHICAGO, IL – Four Venezuelan immigrants were apprehended on Saturday, accused of assaulting and robbing a man aboard a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) train. The suspects were identified as Fernando Loyo-Rodriguez, 22, Wilker Gutierrez Sierra, 21, Carlos Carreno-Carreno, 20, and Yonnier Guasamucare Garcia, 18, by the Chicago police.

The quartet allegedly attacked and robbed a 49-year-old man on a CTA train near South Kostner Avenue. The victim reportedly lost consciousness during the incident but has since regained his health.

The police apprehended the suspects near S Pulaski Rd, less than an hour after the reported crime. The responding officers managed to locate the suspects and took them into custody. Each of them has been charged with robbery and aggravated battery/strangulation.

The suspects, identified as Venezuelan immigrants, were scheduled for bond hearings on Monday. They reportedly resided in a city-operated migrant shelter. If convicted of felony charges, three out of the four suspects could face deportation, according to immigration experts.

The Chicago Police Department declined to confirm the suspects’ legal status or residential address. Since August 2022, Chicago has received approximately 35,000 migrants from the Southern Border, with 13,000 of them being accommodated in shelters at taxpayers’ expense.

The city has asked for an additional $250 million from state lawmakers to address the ongoing migrant crisis, after spending nearly double that amount.
