Four-month-old baby girl found dead in hotel room

MISSION BEND, TX – Law enforcement officials in Mission Bend, Texas, are investigating what they describe as the “suspicious” death of a four-month-old baby found at a Days Inn. Harris County Sheriff’s Office Major Earl Dean said that the office received a 911 call from the hotel’s management reporting a non-breathing infant in one of their rooms.

The infant, identified by family as Brooklyn, was found in the room without a crib. The baby girl had been sleeping in a drawer. She had been staying at the hotel with her parents and two-year-old brother.

Though Brooklyn’s body showed no obvious signs of trauma, both child abuse and homicide units responded to the scene due to the circumstances surrounding her death. The investigation into the 4-month-old baby’s untimely death is ongoing.

The cause of the child’s death is expected to be confirmed only after the medical examiner’s report, which could take weeks to complete.

As of Sunday evening, no charges related to the incident had been filed. Both Brooklyn’s 20-year-old mother and 39-year-old father have been detained for questioning. Authorities in Polk County were informed about the incident, and the father of the baby girl was taken into custody for active warrants regarding violent crimes in that area.
