Four people shot, one killed, in downtown Cleveland

CLEVELAND, OH – A tragic shooting early Sunday morning in downtown Cleveland left one person dead and three others injured. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. near East 13th Street and St. Clair Avenue.

Police officers quickly arrived at the scene, discovering four individuals with gunshot wounds: a 24-year-old man, a 19-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman, and a 28-year-old man. The 28-year-old man was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to a statement from Deputy Chief Schlacht. “Our thoughts are with the families of the victims of this unfortunate incident,” Schlacht said.

In addition to the tragic loss of life, the shooting also caused a gas leak when a main line was struck near Read’s Jewelry and Loan store. The Cleveland Fire Department promptly secured the leak, preventing further danger.

This incident comes just days after Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb unveiled his summer safety plan, aimed at enhancing public safety through a coordinated citywide effort. The plan emphasizes the deployment of city resources, the expansion of community partnerships, and the active engagement of citizens to prevent violence and ensure safety.

The community is now grappling with the aftermath of the shooting, as officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement as they work to prevent further violence.

The city’s response to this tragedy will be closely watched as officials implement the summer safety plan, hoping to restore a sense of security in Cleveland’s neighborhoods.
