Four students stabbed at high school

STATEN ISLAND, NY – In a violent altercation at a Staten Island local high school on Monday, four students sustained cuts from a blade, according to local authorities. A fifth underage individual was subsequently taken into custody in relation to the incident.

The incident took place around 9:45 a.m. at Port Richmond High School, which is located on St. Josephs Avenue. An 18-year-old male student suffered facial lacerations, and a 17-year-old was similarly injured. The other two victims, both adolescent youths of 16 and 17, had their hands cut in the fight.

Following the violent incident, local authorities reported that two of the affected students sought medical aid at Richmond University Medical Center. The remaining two victims declined to seek medical treatment.

A spokeswoman for the City Department of Education, Jenna Lyle, publicly addressed the matter and reassured that the wellbeing of the students remained the department’s foremost concern. She praised the swift response by school staff and NYPD School Safety Agents to the event and pledged emotional support for any student requiring it in the aftermath of the tragedy.

However, the event has raised concerns due to the absence of metal detectors at the school, as highlighted by some sources close to the situation.
