Fundraiser Faceoff: Melania Trump Backs LGBT Conservatives as Former President Trump Rallies in North Carolina

Charlotte, North Carolina – Former President Donald Trump and former First Lady Melania Trump are both scheduled to headline fundraising events in different states on Saturday, showcasing their respective initiatives in the political arena. Donald Trump is set to host a fundraiser for his campaign and the Republican Party in North Carolina, followed by a rally in the afternoon. Meanwhile, Melania Trump will be raising money for a conservative LGBT group at the Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach later in the evening.

This rare appearance by Melania at a fundraising event comes amidst her limited involvement in the former president’s campaign activities during this election cycle. Her recent public appearances include attending a Palm Beach fundraiser where more than $50 million was raised for Trump and the Republicans, as well as accompanying the former president to a polling location in Palm Beach for the Florida Republican primary.

The fundraiser for Log Cabin Republicans, the largest nonprofit organization representing LGBT conservatives in the U.S., is co-hosted by prominent Republican donors and longtime allies of Donald Trump. Among the co-hosts are Richard Grenell, the former U.S. ambassador to Germany who also served as acting director of National Intelligence in the Trump administration and became the first openly gay person to hold a Cabinet-level position in the country. Additionally, the former president of the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum Bill White and his husband Bryan Eure are also co-hosting the event.

The fundraiser has garnered significant attention, with tickets priced at $10,000 each. Grenell expressed optimism about the event, stating that Melania Trump will lead a bold campaign to garner support from gay and lesbian Americans for Republicans, emphasizing Trump’s commitment to equality and freedom. The fundraiser quickly sold out, raising over $1 million and attracting attendees from various states across the country.

On the other hand, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Donald Trump is gearing up for a fundraising event with the Republican National Committee chairman, Michael Whatley, and his daughter-in-law Lara Trump, who also serves as an RNC co-chair. The event is expected to raise at least $5 million, with ticket prices ranging from $5,000 for general admission to $250,000 per couple to be on the host-committee. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be divided among the Trump campaign, Trump’s Save America PAC, the RNC, and several state GOP committees.

Despite Governor Roy Cooper’s optimism regarding Joe Biden’s chances in North Carolina, co-host Ed Broyhill asserts the state’s status as a GOP stronghold, citing Republican success in down-ballot races and dismissing the idea of a possible Biden victory. With top donors flying in for the fundraiser, expectations exceed the initial $5 million goal, reflecting the continued support for the Trump campaign within the Republican base.
