Seattle, Washington – Microsoft’s Copilot has received a significant upgrade over ChatGPT, with the introduction of the more advanced GPT-4 Turbo in its free version. This latest development was announced by Mikhail Parakhin, CEO of Advertising and Web Services at Microsoft, during an X post on Tuesday. Users of Copilot Pro still have the option to switch between GPT-4 and GPT-4 Turbo.
The introduction of GPT-4 Turbo to Copilot brings several enhancements, including a larger 128,000 context window and an updated knowledge cutoff of December 2023. Previously, GPT-4 Turbo was only accessible to developers through an OpenAI API or Copilot Pro subscribers for a $20 monthly fee. This update now allows users to experience OpenAI’s most advanced model for free.
Fine-tuning the implementation of GPT-4 Turbo into Copilot was a challenge, according to Parakhin. Ensuring an improved user experience or at least maintaining the same level of performance as GPT-4 was a priority during the process. The issues initially faced by GPT-4 Turbo, such as being perceived as “lazy,” have been addressed in this upgrade.
To test the capabilities of GPT-4 Turbo, a sample prompt was inputted into both GPT-4 and GPT-4 Turbo. The prompt, involving a simple logical question, revealed that GPT-4 Turbo outperformed GPT-4 by providing the correct answer. This shift to GPT-4 Turbo demonstrates a true upgrade, enhancing the chatbot’s ability to reason through logical questions, an essential skill for tasks like math, coding, and more.
