Grandparents and infant child killed in police chase crash

TORONTO, ON – A tragic highway incident involving a police chase and a six-vehicle collision east of Toronto claimed the lives of two grandparents, their infant grandchild, and the suspect in the chased van, according to Canadian authorities on Tuesday.

The calamitous event unfolded late Monday following an alleged liquor store robbery that led to a high-speed pursuit. The suspect, driving the wrong way, crashed into oncoming traffic, causing a devastating multi-vehicle collision.

The deceased grandparents were 55 and 60 years old, and another individual was injured and transported to a local hospital, shared Monica Hudon, a spokeswoman for the Special Investigations Unit (SIU). The SIU, a unit that investigates incidents involving police that result in serious injury or death, is currently examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal chase.

Hudon stated that the investigation is still in its early stages and will scrutinize whether the police officers involved were authorized to pursue the suspect’s van onto the highway. The exact number of victims involved in the crash is still being confirmed by the police.
