Gunfire breaks out during outdoor party, 7 people shot

A shooting broke out in West Philadelphia during an outdoor party. One man lost his life, and six others sustained injuries during the gunfire. This incident occurred just two days after another homicide took place on the same block. The police were called to the scene in the early hours of Saturday morning, where they discovered a large crowd and multiple victims of the shooting. The victims were swiftly transported to the hospital for medical attention. As investigations continue, authorities are yet to determine the motive behind the shooting. No arrests have been made as of yet.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, officers arrived at the scene to find a significant number of people gathered outside. Multiple individuals had been shot, prompting immediate action. Two victims were transported to Presbyterian Hospital in patrol vehicles, while emergency responders took two others to the same hospital. Approximately an hour later, two additional victims arrived at the hospital.

Tragically, a 19-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at 5:40 a.m. A 47-year-old man, shot in the back, was listed in stable condition. Three women, aged 20, 21, and 21, were also in stable condition after being hit in their legs multiple times. Another 20-year-old woman suffered a graze wound on her shoulder. The police recovered 60 fired cartridge casings from various weapons at the scene.

Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore stated that witnesses described the incident as a “shoot-out” during a block party or barbecue on the residential street. The shooter’s motive remains unclear, and authorities are actively investigating the incident. Notably, just two days prior, a 30-year-old man was also shot and killed at a residence on the same block. While arrests were made in that case, it is yet to be determined if there is any connection between the two shootings.
