High school shooting leaves 1 student dead

ARLINGTON, TX – An 18-year-old student died in a tragic shooting that broke out at James Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas. The incident immediately triggered the school’s lockdown protocol.

When they found the unresponsive victim, responding officers performed immediate life-saving actions. Despite promptly being transported to the hospital, the student sadly passed away due to multiple gunshot wounds.

A 17-year-old suspect, known to the victim, attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended without issue. Chief Al Jones of the Arlington Police Department emphasized the community’s intolerance for such violence, particularly in schools.

As a result of the campus lockdown, the students’ dismissal was delayed. Arlington ISD arranged a reunification site for Bowie High School students and their families at the Arlington ISD Athletics and Aquatics Center. Distressed eyewitnesses shared harrowing accounts of the gunshots and ensuing terror among students.

In response to the incident and the subsequent investigations led by the Arlington Police Department, classes at Bowie High School will be canceled on Thursday. Returning students will have comprehensive counseling services at their disposal.
