Home invasion leaves 11-year-old boy dead, pregnant mom stabbed

CHICAGO, IL – An ex-convict with an extensive history of domestic violence is back in police custody mere days after his release. He is accused of a violent home invasion in West Edgewater, Chicago, where an 11-year-old boy was stabbed to death, and his pregnant mother left in critical condition.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning in the 5900 block of North Ravenswood Avenue. Authorities reported responding to a domestic violence dispute. Amid the chaos, residents of the building heard screams and desperate cries for help. Shortly after, officers discovered a severely injured 33-year-old woman and her son, both suffering from stab wounds.

The victims were swiftly transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. Unfortunately, the pre-teen, identified as Jayden Perkins, succumbed to his injuries. His death is being treated as a homicide.

The mother, who is 31 weeks pregnant, remains in critical condition as medical professionals battle to stabilize her.

A 37-year-old male suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was taken into custody on Wednesday. He reportedly has a record of domestic violence offenses and breaching protective orders, with a history of violent altercations with the same victim. In 2015, the man allegedly attacked the woman just days after she ended their relationship. His seven-year prison term ended this Tuesday when he walked free from Statesville Correctional Center, only to face a new possible set of charges for this horrifying incident.

The victims resided in the Peterson Plaza Apartments, where the woman’s younger child, a 5-year-old boy, was also present during the attack. Thankfully, he escaped physical harm in the incident.
