Houston, Texas – In a remarkable debut season in the Conference, the University of Houston’s men’s basketball team has claimed the 2023-24 Big 12 regular season title and secured the top seed in the upcoming Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship set to take place from March 12-16 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City.

The No. 1 nationally-ranked Cougars finished the regular season with a two-game lead, boasting a 15-3 record. With a current overall record of 28-3 and a nine-game winning streak, the Cougars are poised for a strong postseason run. Leading in key metrics such as the NET, Ken Pom, and ESPN Power Index, Houston has also shown dominance at home with an undefeated 17-0 record and a solid 5-1 record against Top 25 opponents. This marks Houston coach Kelvin Sampson’s second Big 12 regular season title, with the first coming during his tenure at Oklahoma in 2004-05.

Following Houston, Iowa State secured the No. 2 seed in the Championship, followed by Baylor at No. 3, and Texas Tech at No. 4. The top four seeds receive a double bye and will kick off the action in the quarterfinals on March 14. The competition will feature the next six highest seeds, with BYU at No. 5, Kansas at No. 6, Texas at No. 7, TCU at No. 8, Oklahoma at No. 9, and Kansas State at No. 10, starting their campaign on March 13.

The tournament’s initial rounds on March 12 will see matchups between UCF and Oklahoma State, followed by Cincinnati and West Virginia.
