Husband charged in wife and mother-in-law’s murder

SAN PABLO, CA – A local resident, Phuc Vo, 40, is facing charges for the alleged murder of his wife, Tho Ly, 40, and her mother, Que Tran, 74, according to an announcement by the San Pablo Police Department on Monday.

Vo had previously reported both women missing in September, claiming they had disappeared a week before he filed the report. He stated that they had left their home in a 2017 Honda Fit heading to Southern California after a family dispute.

However, the police have not been able to find the bodies of the two women, nor have they revealed the cause of their deaths. The information provided by Vo regarding the women’s trip to Southern California could not be verified, raising suspicions.

As the investigation progressed, detectives noticed discrepancies in Vo’s account, particularly concerning the vehicle the women were alleged to have taken. Vo was spotted driving the same car in Oakland on December 5, 2023, which further fueled investigators’ doubts.

Following these developments, Vo was named a person of interest in the case. On February 29, a search warrant was executed at Vo’s residence, leading to his arrest. Witnesses reported seeing law enforcement officers excavating the yard of Vo’s home.

Vo is currently detained at the Martinez Detention Facility without bail, as per the facility’s records.
