Cupertino, California – Apple has recently rolled out a revised version of iOS 17.4.1 for iPhone and iPad users, introducing two important security patches. The new build, identified as 21E237, replaces the previous 21E236 version and aims to address critical bugs within the operating system. While the updated build is available for all iOS 17 and iPadOS 17-compatible devices, installing it may prove challenging initially.
According to reports, users can only access the revised build by downloading the IPSW file to update or restore their devices via Finder on Mac or the Apple Devices app on Windows. Apple has yet to release the revised iOS 17.4.1 as an over-the-air (OTA) update, making the installation process a bit more complex than usual.
The security fixes included in iOS 17.4.1 target two exploits that could potentially lead to arbitrary code execution when processing images. These vulnerabilities were discovered in CoreMedia and WebRTC systems, with Apple acknowledging Nick Galloway from Google Project Zero for identifying and reporting the security breach. Additionally, the macOS Sonoma 14.4.1 also addressed these same exploits, aligning with Apple’s commitment to enhancing user security across its platforms.
Once the revised build of iOS 17.4.1 becomes available as an OTA update, users can easily download and install it by navigating to Settings, then General, and finally Software Update on their respective devices. While the update doesn’t introduce any new features, the focus on security enhancements underscores Apple’s ongoing efforts to safeguard user data and privacy on its devices.
