WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana has called on President Biden to take a stronger stance against Iran in response to the retaliatory strikes carried out in Syria and Iraq.
Following the deaths of three American soldiers in an Iran-backed drone attack, Johnson criticized the Biden administration for what he deemed a “long overdue” response. He emphasized the need for a clear and forceful reaction to such attacks, stating that the administration’s delay in response and its public signaling have weakened America’s standing in the international community.
The Republican house speaker highlighted the numerous attacks endured by U.S. troops in the Middle East, attributing them to the Biden administration’s strategy of appeasing Iran. According to Johnson, this strategy has been disastrous for the international community and regional stability.
He urged President Biden to “wake up” and acknowledge the failure of his policy of “placating Iran,” asserting that America must project strength in order to promote peace and protect its allies. Johnson’s call for a more robust approach to dealing with Iran reflects growing concerns among lawmakers about the effectiveness of the Biden administration’s foreign policy in the Middle East.
