ROUND ROCK, Texas – A tragic incident unfolded over the weekend at a Juneteenth celebration in Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, leaving two individuals dead and six others injured, including two young children. The violence erupted during a concert at the event when an altercation between two groups escalated into gunfire, as described by Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks during a press briefing.
Chief Banks revealed that the two victims who lost their lives were not involved in the initial argument that led to the shooting. The tragic event took place near a vendor area, separate from the concert stage where the music was being performed. Immediate medical assistance was provided to the wounded by police officers and fire department personnel at the scene, before they were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
According to a statement by Austin-Travis County EMS, six individuals – four adults and two children – sustained potentially serious injuries and were admitted to local trauma centers. As of Sunday, law enforcement authorities had not apprehended a suspect, and the number of shooters involved in the incident remained unclear. Chief Banks expressed deep sorrow for the families affected by the senseless act of violence, emphasizing the devastating impact on those who were simply out to enjoy an evening of celebration.
