Kraken’s New Coach Bylsma Ready to Lead Team to Success in NHL Expansion

Seattle, Washington – Dan Bylsma has been named the new head coach of the Seattle Kraken, taking over from Dave Hakstol. Bylsma, a Stanley Cup-winning coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009, is set to lead the Kraken as they continue their journey in the NHL as an expansion team.

At 53 years old, Bylsma brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously coached in the NHL with both the Penguins and the Buffalo Sabres. With a coaching record of 320-190-55 in 565 NHL games, Bylsma expressed gratitude for the opportunity to guide the Kraken, emphasizing the honor and privilege of coaching at the national level.

Prior to his appointment as head coach of the Kraken, Bylsma spent two seasons coaching the Coachella Valley, Seattle’s American Hockey League affiliate. His successful tenure with Coachella Valley, including a trip to the Calder Cup Finals last season, lays the groundwork for his return to coaching in the NHL with the Kraken.

Bylsma’s focus on the present and building something special with his team reflects his commitment to the game and to developing strong relationships with his players and staff. With the support of the Kraken ownership group and General Manager Ron Francis, Bylsma is ready to lead the team to new heights in the upcoming season.

The Kraken, who finished sixth in the Pacific Division this past season, are looking to rebound under Bylsma’s leadership and make a push for the playoffs. Francis highlighted Bylsma’s passion and dedication to the game as key factors in his appointment as head coach.

Bylsma’s coaching career has spanned various teams and levels of play, including stints with the Detroit Red Wings and the Buffalo Sabres. His experience coaching at different levels, along with his time as a player in the NHL, gives him a unique perspective on the game and how to motivate and develop players.

As Bylsma steps into his new role with the Kraken, he brings with him a vision of success and a commitment to fostering a winning culture within the team. With the upcoming season on the horizon, all eyes will be on Bylsma and the Kraken as they strive for greatness in the NHL.
