Las Vegas’ Iconic Mirage Hotel Shuts Down After 34 Years – Future of the Strip Revealed!

Las Vegas, Nevada – The iconic Mirage hotel-casino, renowned for its Y-shaped design and The Beatles Cirque du Soleil show “LOVE,” is set to close its doors in July after 34 years of operation on the Las Vegas Strip. The closure comes as Hard Rock International, the owners of the property, plan a major overhaul involving the construction of a guitar-shaped hotel on the site, similar to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

The Mirage, which opened in 1989 as the first megaresort on the Las Vegas Strip, played a pivotal role in transforming the city’s tourism landscape. Its closure marks the end of an era for a venue that has been a centerpiece of entertainment and hospitality in Las Vegas.

The new resort, to be named “Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas” (HRHCLV), is expected to open in 2027 and will bring significant economic opportunities to the region. However, the closure of The Mirage will result in more than 3,000 employees being laid off, with the company estimating $80 million in severance payments.

The Mirage, originally developed by Steve Wynn at a cost of $630 million, has been home to iconic shows such as those by Siegfried & Roy, known for their performances with white lions and tigers. The hotel’s volcano fountain, a popular nightly attraction, has long been a staple of the Las Vegas Strip’s entertainment offerings.

Guests with reservations beyond July 14 are advised that their bookings will be automatically canceled and refunded. The closure of The Mirage follows the recent shuttering of the historic Tropicana Las Vegas as the city continues to undergo changes in its entertainment and hospitality landscape.

As Las Vegas evolves and adapts to new trends and developments, the closure of The Mirage symbolizes the end of an era for one of the city’s most iconic properties. The transition to the new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas represents a new chapter in the city’s vibrant history as a global entertainment destination.
