LinkedIn’s 2024 Most In-Demand Skills: Are You Missing Out on the Hottest Job Opportunities?

NEW YORK, NY – LinkedIn’s 2024 Most In-Demand Skills list, published on Thursday, revealed the hottest skills in the job market based on job listings and recent hires on the platform. For the second consecutive year, communication topped the list, reflecting its essential role in the workforce.

The platform also compared popular skills from the previous year, identifying adaptability as the “skill of the moment.” This highlights the increasing demand for workers who can quickly adjust to ongoing changes in the workplace.

According to LinkedIn, the top 10 most in-demand skills employers want to see on resumes right now are: communication, customer service, leadership, project management, management, analytics, teamwork, sales, problem-solving, and research.

LinkedIn career expert Catherine Fisher emphasizes the importance of communication as a widely needed, transferable skill relevant to almost every job and industry. She attributes the need for improved communication in the workplace to changes in the post-pandemic workforce as a result of the rise of AI and the diverse generations now working together.

Aneesh Raman, LinkedIn’s vice president, noted that adaptability is crucial for employees to navigate the ongoing changes in the workplace. He emphasizes the need for workers to develop the “muscle of adaptability” to effectively manage change.

As hybrid work becomes the norm in offices across the U.S., effective communication with leaders, colleagues, and customers is increasingly important. Fisher explains that employees are expected to adapt to new tools and processes across various channels and platforms.

In addition to adding these skills to resumes and LinkedIn profiles, Fisher suggests that job seekers showcase their adaptability and strong communication skills during interviews through specific examples of past experiences. She also recommends practicing these skills during team meetings, group projects, and interactions with managers for those seeking a promotion or raise.
