Farmerville, Louisiana – The family of a 26-year-old man is calling for justice after an incident that left him with brain damage. Christopher Gilbert nearly drowned on April 14 at a lakefront restaurant by Lake D’Arbonne in Farmerville, Louisiana.
Gilbert’s mother, Yolanda George, recounted receiving a distraught call from a friend of her son, informing her that Christopher had been underwater for 20 minutes. George explained that her son, who aspires to be a medical doctor, was rescued and taken to a hospital where he was initially deemed brain-dead, with his organs failing. However, he later regained consciousness and the ability to eat.
An attorney for Gilbert’s family revealed that initial reports suggested he had fallen into the lake, but further investigation showed that a female friend had pushed him. The family is pushing for criminal charges against the person responsible for the push and holding the restaurant owner accountable for safeguarding patrons.
Despite the traumatic experience, Gilbert has shown signs of improvement, waking up, eating on his own, and temporarily being taken off life support. The family’s petition for justice has garnered over 2,600 signatures, emphasizing the community’s support for their cause.
