Man charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing and shooting wife

COLLINSVILLE, IL – A 67-year-old Collinsville, Illinois man has been apprehended and charged following a violent domestic dispute that took place on Saturday, during which he allegedly stabbed his wife multiple times and shot her in the head.

Robert Doll was hit with multiple charges on Monday, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and aggravated battery, according to the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The incident first came to the Collinsville Police Department’s attention on Saturday morning, when they received a 911 distress call from a neighbor. The caller reported a woman screaming for help outside their apartment building, claiming she had been stabbed. When they got to the scene of the crime, officers discovered the severely injured woman. They promptly provided assistance before transferring her to an ambulance.

Relaying to the officers that her husband was responsible for her injuries and might still be in their apartment, a swift response was initiated to locate Doll. Despite leaving the residence and attempting to elude capture, Doll was eventually located and arrested in Maryland Heights, Missouri the following day.

The victim is currently being treated in a St. Louis-area hospital and is expected to recover fully from her injuries, according to police. Meanwhile, Doll is being held in custody in the Madison County Jail, awaiting his day in court. Assistance in processing the crime scene was provided by the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services Unit.
