Man falls off cruise ship after text to wife about sickness

SOUTHAMPTON, UK – A 23-year-old man disappeared from a Northern European cruise after reportedly texting his wife that he was feeling seasick. The passenger was reported missing from the MSC Euribia shortly after the ship set sail from Southampton, England, according to a statement from MSC Cruises.

The cruise line stated that the man went overboard on March 16 as the ship was en route to Hamburg. The incident was immediately reported to the authorities. The Southampton police boarded the vessel for investigation on behalf of the coroner. MSC Cruises expressed their deep sorrow over the incident and extended their thoughts to the family during this challenging time. The cruise line also stated that they would respect the family’s privacy and refrain from disclosing further information.

The ship, which was scheduled to sail to Hamburg, Germany, Rotterdam, Netherlands, Bruges, Belgium, and Le Havre, France, returned to Southampton on Friday. Upon its return, police boarded the vessel to further investigate the incident.

The missing passenger was identified as Liam Jones, a 23-year-old social work student from Dundee, Scotland, by the Glasgow-based Daily Record. Jones’ wife, Sophia Mcphee, aged 20, told the outlet that she had received minimal information about the incident. However, she revealed that her husband had complained of seasickness in his last text message to her.
