Man fatally shoots woman before stealing police car

HOUSTON, TX – A man suspected of a deadly shooting managed to escape after an intense firefight with authorities near the Texas Medical Center, according to Houston police.

Around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, firefighters were at the Shell gas station at Almeda Road and North MacGregor Drive when they happened upon a domestic dispute between a man and a woman. Alarmingly, the man drew a firearm and shot the woman multiple times. She was later pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.

Responding to the incident, a deputy constable from Harris County Precinct 7 attempted to halt the suspect near the vicinity of the gas station. However, the man opened fire, prompting the deputy to retaliate.

In the ensuing gun battle, the suspect somehow managed to commandeer the deputy’s vehicle, making his initial escape amidst flying bullets. He only got so far though before he doubled back to the scene and engaged in a second firefight with the deputy. After this, he fled the scene in his own vehicle.

“The suspect was gone for a short period of time and then returned to the scene. There was another gun fight with the deputy.” stated Assistant Chief Jessica Anderson of HPD. Afterwards, the suspect reportedly got into a car and fled the scene.

Captain Marcus Grant of Precinct 7 confirmed the deputy, a 14-year veteran, sustained minor injuries and was under medical examination in a nearby hospital.

The suspect reportedly made his last escape in a black Chevy Camaro, after returning to the scene of the crime and abandoning the commandeered police vehicle. HPD later found the Camaro but are still actively searching for the suspect. Authorities identify the car as belonging to the deceased woman.

While the name of the suspect is still undisclosed, the police believe they have a solid lead on his identity and warn that he is armed and dangerous.
