Investigators said two riders collided Sunday evening before an argument escalated and one man opened fire.
MIAMI, FL — A man was shot and killed Sunday evening after a collision between two e-scooter riders in northwest Miami-Dade led to an argument and gunfire, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said the encounter happened at about 5:30 p.m. near Northwest 75th Street and Northwest 22nd Court. The two men were traveling in opposite directions on e-scooters when they collided, authorities said. What began as a traffic-related encounter then developed into an argument.
According to investigators, the confrontation escalated until one of the riders shot the other man. The shooter then left the area on his e-scooter before deputies could take him into custody. Authorities had not announced an arrest as detectives continued investigating Sunday night.
The circumstances leading from the collision to the shooting remained under investigation. Authorities had not publicly established whether the two men knew each other before they crossed paths, and investigators had not released information explaining what was said or done during the argument before the gunfire.
Authorities also had not released the victim’s identity in the initial reporting on the case. No detailed description of the person investigators were seeking was immediately available. The sheriff’s office continued working to determine the sequence of events and identify evidence that could help locate the shooter.
Daniel Castillo, a public information officer for the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, urged people with information about the shooting to contact investigators. He also asked residents and businesses in the area to check for camera footage that could have captured the confrontation or the shooter leaving the neighborhood.
Detectives remained at the scene Sunday night, and part of the surrounding neighborhood was blocked while investigators worked. The shooting occurred near Northwest 75th Street and Northwest 22nd Court, an area where investigators could seek surveillance video from homes, businesses or other nearby properties as part of the homicide investigation.
The sheriff’s office had not released additional details about a possible motive or announced whether investigators had identified the shooter by late Sunday. The investigation remained active, with detectives seeking witnesses and video that could clarify what happened after the scooters collided.
