Man killed by brother in deadly Walmart shooting

PUNXSUTAWNEY, PA – An argument erupted into bloodshed when a man fatally shot his brother outside a Walmart in Punxsutawney, Young Township, a small town around 80 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Troopers received the call around 12:15 p.m. on Monday and promptly arrived at the scene. The heated exchange between the two brothers had ended with one shooting the other in the chest, troopers said. State troopers have not yet released the identities, ages, or the nature of the brothers’ argument.

Police assured the public that the shooting, which resulted in no other injuries, was an “isolated family incident.” The alleged shooter was taken into custody on the spot.

The Elk Run Volunteer Fire Company, via a Facebook post, had advised locals to avoid the area surrounding the Walmart owing to a substantial police presence. The investigation of this case is still ongoing, pending consultation with the Jefferson County District Attorney, informed troopers through an email on Wednesday.

Kim Hess, Walmart’s spokesperson, acknowledged the incident, stating that their top priority remained the safety of customers and associates. Deferring any further queries to the police, they promised to cooperate fully with law enforcement as the investigation proceeds.
