Man shot in the head at Subway restaurant

CHICAGO, IL – Late on Thursday night, a fatal shooting took place at the Subway restaurant located on the 100 block of West 79th Street, Chatham. Chicago police indicate that the assailant shot the victim in the head around 11:40 p.m., with the victim subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. The shooter managed to flee the scene of the crime and remains at large.

Reports confirmed that neither the victim nor the gunman were employees of the Subway. Information regarding their relationships to each other remains unclear and the motivation for the crime has eluded the police thus far.

The manager of the fast-food chain suggested that the man who was shot had walked in from the neighboring gas station. A regular patron of the Subway, who often visits with her grandson, expressed shock at the violent incident at a place she routinely frequents.

Despite being operational on Friday morning, police marked the establishment as closed with an orange sign, stating its status as a public safety risk due to the violent crime that occurred within its operating hours. The fate of the business hinges on a nuisance abatement hearing, where Mayor Brandon Johnson will decide the time of its potential reopening.

Investigations into the fatal shooting are ongoing and authorities are actively searching for the suspect.
