Man stabbed at illegal migrant shelter

NEW YORK, NY – A 25-year-old man was stabbed in the shoulder during an altercation at the Randall’s Island migrant shelter in New York City, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred Friday evening around 8 p.m., leading to the arrest of two suspects.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) identified the suspects as brothers Josue Deleon, 19, and Moises Deleon, 27. Both face assault charges stemming from the incident. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and the relationship between the victim and the suspects has not been disclosed.

The stabbing is the latest in a series of violent incidents at the Randall’s Island shelter. Earlier that day, another altercation had reportedly taken place, escalating tensions within the facility. Sources indicate that the shelter has been the scene of multiple violent episodes in recent months.

In April, five men were arrested after allegedly attacking another resident and injuring a security guard during a brawl at the shelter on East 125 Street. The men, aged between 20 and 33, were charged with third-degree assault and harassment. They reportedly surrounded the victim’s bed and assaulted him while he was eating.

The facility has also seen other violent incidents. In February, two migrants were arrested for allegedly assaulting a security guard in separate incidents on the same evening. Police responding to the first assault witnessed the second attack unfold while they were on the scene.

Despite increased security measures, the shelter continues to grapple with violence among its residents. Authorities are working to address the underlying issues contributing to the unrest.
