Manchester, New Hampshire – Market Basket employees are being hailed as heroes for apprehending a man accused of stealing a woman’s wallet inside the store. The incident occurred on Wednesday when Robert Desmond, 42, of Manchester, allegedly snatched the wallet from the victim’s purse, which was in a shopping cart. Despite the victim and another shopper’s attempts to stop him, Desmond managed to flee before being stopped by quick-thinking store employees.
Upon arrival, the police found Desmond being restrained by several employees in one of the store’s aisles. A struggle ensued, during which Desmond reportedly bit one of the employees, causing minor injuries. As a result, he was arrested on charges including robbery, simple assault, and possession of a controlled substance.
Heather Hamel of the Manchester Police Department commended the employees for their actions but cautioned against attempting to handle such situations independently, emphasizing the importance of safety. The employees’ bravery in detaining the suspect prevented further harm, and their swift actions ultimately led to Desmond’s apprehension by law enforcement.
