The incident occurred on Wednesday when Robert Desmond, 42, of Manchester, allegedly snatched the wallet from the victim’s purse, which was in a shopping cart. Despite the victim and another shopper’s attempts to stop him, Desmond managed to flee before being stopped by quick-thinking store employees.

Upon arrival, the police found Desmond being restrained by several employees in one of the store’s aisles. A struggle ensued, during which Desmond reportedly bit one of the employees, causing minor injuries. As a result, he was arrested on charges including robbery, simple assault, and possession of a controlled substance.

Heather Hamel of the Manchester Police Department commended the employees for their actions but cautioned against attempting to handle such situations independently, emphasizing the importance of safety.
