Mass shooting at Memphis block party

MEMPHIS, TN – A neighborhood gathering turned tragic on Saturday night when a mass shooting erupted at a block party in Memphis, Tennessee, resulting in two fatalities and six injuries, as reported by local law enforcement.

The Memphis Police Department arrived on the scene at 7:19 p.m. in the Orange Mound neighborhood, specifically the 2400 block of Carnes Avenue, following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered five individuals suffering from gunshot injuries. Two male victims were declared dead at the scene, while three others were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Interim Police Chief CJ Davis, during a press conference, stated that the department is actively pursuing the suspects responsible for the shooting. According to Davis, there are at least two suspects who initiated the gunfire during the neighborhood celebration.

The vicinity around Carnes Avenue and Grand Street was sealed off as multiple crime scenes were identified and investigated. The Memphis Fire Department dispatched several ambulances to assist at the scene.

Law enforcement officials indicated that the block party, attended by an estimated 200 to 300 people, was held without a permit. The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing.
