MONACO – McLaren has introduced the Artura Spider, expanding its “entry-level” supercar range to include a convertible option. The Artura first debuted as a mid-engined plug-in hybrid coupe in 2022 but now offers drivers the thrill of an open-top driving experience with the new Spider model, showcasing McLaren’s commitment to innovation in the automotive industry.
The Artura represents a significant advancement for McLaren, featuring a new carbon fiber chassis tub, advanced electronic architecture, and a powerful hybrid powertrain combining a twin-turbo V6 gasoline engine with an axial flux electric motor. With the launch of the 2025 model year and the $273,800 Spider variant, McLaren’s engineering team has enhanced the Artura with increased power output, improved engine maps, and faster transmission shifts for an even more exhilarating driving experience.
The Artura Spider boasts a combined 680 hp (507 kW) from its V6 engine and electric motor, providing ample power despite the 134 lbs (62 kg) added weight from the retractable hard top. McLaren has also introduced stiffer engine mounts, new throttle maps, and enhancements to the dual-clutch transmission to elevate performance levels. Additionally, the car remains remarkably light compared to other vehicles on the market, weighing 3,439 lbs (1,559 kg), showcasing McLaren’s dedication to creating high-performance yet lightweight supercars.
In comparison to the Ferrari 296 GTS, another convertible hybrid in the market, the Artura Spider offers a more affordable option without compromising on performance or luxury. The Artura’s hybrid system, equipped with a 7.4 kWh traction battery, allows for up to 11 miles of electric-only driving in E-mode, demonstrating McLaren’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency in their supercar lineup.
