Measles Alert: Universal Studios Visitor Exposes Dozens – Are You Safe?

Los Angeles County health officials issued a warning on Saturday about a measles exposure linked to an unidentified traveler who visited various locations in the county between March 30 and April 1.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, they were alerted by the California Department of Public Health about the individual carrying the disease. The traveler, who was a nonresident, frequented several locations during the specified period, primarily in Universal City and at the Sheraton hotel near L.A. International Airport.

Health officials disclosed that the individual visited Universal Studios Hollywood attractions, the Sheraton’s gym, and local restaurants. A complete list of the exposure locations can be found on the health department’s website.

Investigations are ongoing to identify any additional locations where exposure may have occurred. Anyone who visited the mentioned places on the specified dates is advised to ensure they have been vaccinated against measles.

Dr. Muntu Davis, the Los Angeles County Health Officer, emphasized the importance of vaccination, stating that measles can be transmitted through the air and direct contact, even before symptoms appear. He warned that the disease is highly contagious to individuals without immunity and can lead to severe illness.

Symptoms of measles can surface up to three weeks after exposure, underscoring the significance of taking precautions and seeking medical attention if any signs develop. Authorities are working diligently to contain the spread of the disease and protect public health in the region.
