Miami Teen Killed in Hit-and-Run While Wakeboarding: Officials Find Suspect Boat

Miami, Florida – A tragic incident unfolded over the weekend as 15-year-old Ella Adler lost her life while wakeboarding in the Miami area, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

Adler was struck by a boat while wakeboarding near Nixon Beach in Key Biscayne on Saturday afternoon. After falling into the water about a mile from shore, she was awaiting rescue by her boat when another vessel fatally hit her, as reported by Officer George Reynaud.

The boat responsible for the hit-and-run did not stop at the scene, prompting a search effort by the FWC. Following days of investigation, authorities announced on Tuesday that they have the suspected vessel in their custody based on witness descriptions.

The boat’s owner is cooperating with the ongoing investigation, stated FWC, which has been tirelessly working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. FWC Chairman Rodney Barreto expressed his condolences to the Adler family and vowed to pursue answers until the case is resolved.

The community, along with law enforcement agencies, is urged to step forward with any information or footage that can aid in the investigation. The vessel sought in connection with the incident was described as a center console boat with specific identifying features, which Reynaud shared with the public.

In light of the devastating loss, a reward of up to $20,000 is being offered for information pertaining to the investigation, with contributions from FWC, Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers, and the Adler family. Ella’s parents, Amanda and Matt Adler, mourned the loss of their bright and talented daughter as they seek closure and justice.

Ella Adler’s impact as a student at Ransom Everglades School and a dedicated ballerina with the Miami City Ballet was remembered fondly, with the school emphasizing her vibrant presence and contributions to the community. The young dancer, described as a “force of nature,” had touched the lives of many through her passion for dance and academic excellence.
