Mom attacked at ATM while on the phone with her daughter

CHICAGO, IL – A 66-year-old woman endured a violent ordeal on Sunday night in Chicago as she was assaulted and robbed while attempting to take cash from an ATM. The incident occurred in the 3200 block of West Addison Street around 10:39 p.m., according to police reports.

The victim was on the phone with her daughter at the time, who disturbingly heard parts of the attack unfold. The daughter, choosing to remain anonymous, said it sounded like her mother was being dragged from the car, and she heard her mother’s screams.

The suspects, two males whose identities remain unknown, purportedly approached the woman at the drive-through lane of a Chase Bank. Opened her car door, assaulted her with an unknown object, and then proceeded to rob her. Despite the terrifying ordeal, the victim’s daughter expressed relief that her mother was relatively unharmed and that material losses like money and a phone could be replaced.

After the incident, the woman was rushed to the Illinois Masonic Hospital for treatment of a head laceration. Her daughter provided reassurance, saying her mother would need stitches but was expected to recover fully.

In light of the frightening occurrence, local people who frequent the bank branch are exercising extra caution. One customer, Laura Velazquez, admitted that she tries to avoid coming to the bank due to increasing incidents of this nature, preferring to use her ATM, debit card and credit card for safety reasons.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection to the incident and detectives from Area Five are currently investigating the case.
