MIAMI, FL – A Florida mother, 36-year-old Shaneka Ann McKinzie, has admitted to authorities that she strangled her 8-year-old son. The young victim has been identified as Jaisyn Burgos. Jaisyn’s mother strangled him while he was sleeping in the backseat of her car. After committing the act, McKinzie went on to run various errands around the county with her unconscious son’s body still in the car, according to the Miami-Dade Police.
McKinzie brought Burgos to a Miami hospital late Tuesday, where he was declared dead. Miami-Dade Police are calling the act “unimaginable,” and have arrested McKinzie in relation to the incident.
“The mother confessed to investigators that for the past two days she plotted to kill her child,” stated the police, following the announcement of a first-degree murder charge against McKinzie. She used a tablecloth to carry out the act, suffocating and strangling the child until he was unresponsive.
An autopsy confirmed the cause of the boy’s death as strangulation. According to reports, Burgos had not been in school since McKinzie brought him to Miami from Missouri a year ago.
McKinzie was placed under arrest following her admission. Because of her involvement in her son’s death, she is now facing a first-degree murder charge according to online records. After an initial court appearance on Thursday, she was ordered to be held without bond and was assigned a public defender, as reported by NBC Miami.
