Mother and 11-year-old daughter shot dead in car

WORCESTER, MA – A devastating shooting incident resulted in the death of a woman and her young daughter in Massachusetts on Tuesday afternoon. Identified as Chasity Nuñez and 11-year-old Zella Nuñez from Worcester, the mother-daughter duo were shot in their car while parked on a local street.

The crime unfolded around 3 p.m., with the grim event taking place near Lisbon Street’s intersection with Englewood Avenue in the Columbus Park neighborhood of Worcester, as per police reports. The victims, found seriously injured in their parked vehicle, were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but they couldn’t be saved.

According to city officials’ statements, the Nuñez family were Worcester residents, with Zella being a student of the Worcester Public Schools. In a collective statement, the City Manager, Mayor, Interim Police Chief, and Superintendent of Schools professed their solidarity with the impacted community, noting that such acts of violence were unacceptable.

Images from the crime scene indicated the extent of violence executed against the victims, with over three dozen evidence markers spread across the roadway. Worcester police Lt. Sean Murtha stated that the incident was unusual for the largely peaceful city, emphasizing its violent nature.

Residents of the neighborhood, known for its calm family-friendly ambiance, expressed their shock and disbelief over the tragic incident. Many recalled hearing the unnerving sound of gunshots in their otherwise quiet surroundings.

A gray Nissan SUV, apparently the victims’, was found riddled with bullet holes on the driver’s side on Englewood Avenue, becoming a gruesome testament to the attack’s ferocity. No arrests have yet been made in connection with the shooting.
