MIAMI, FL – A tragic murder-suicide claimed the lives of a man, a woman, and a child in southwest Miami-Dade early Friday morning, according to local authorities.
At approximately 7:37 a.m., a Miami-Dade Police sergeant from the Hammocks district was patrolling near 152nd Avenue and Bird Road when he heard gunshots. Upon investigating, he discovered a horrifying scene at a Chase Bank drive-thru: three individuals, including a child, were found dead.
The victims were identified as 43-year-old Odalys Bancroft, a child who was in a car seat, and an unidentified man. Initial investigations suggest that Bancroft and the child were in a minivan at the ATM lane when the man approached in another vehicle and opened fire before taking his own life.
Witness Rosa Alba, who was at a nearby restaurant, described the chaos that ensued. “I heard a lot of gunshots and tried to seek cover. It was terrifying, especially knowing a child was involved,” she said. The police responded swiftly to the scene.
The incident has left the community in shock. Michelle Abreu, a local resident and grandmother, expressed her sorrow. “As a mother, this is heartbreaking. We need to address domestic violence and ensure people get the help they need before it escalates to such extremes.”
Demetri Simon, another neighbor, echoed the sentiment. “It’s alarming to see such violence in our community. It makes every parent worry about their children’s safety. We must take steps to prevent these tragedies.”
This incident follows another murder-suicide in Coral Gables just a day earlier, where a 61-year-old man killed his romantic partner and wounded his son before taking his own life.
The Miami-Dade Police Department continues to investigate the relationships between the victims and the circumstances leading to the shooting. The intersection of Bird Road and SW 152nd Avenue remains closed as the investigation proceeds.
