Mother arrested after leaving children to go on cruise

HOUSTON, TX – A Texas mother of two is now in custody after reportedly leaving her young children alone for almost a week to go on a cruise. Lakesha Woods Williams, 29, faces two counts of child endangerment following her alleged abandonment of her 6 and 8-year-old children in her Houston high-rise apartment for six days. The Harris County Constable’s Office – Precinct 5 confirmed her arrest on Thursday.

Williams reportedly embarked on her cruise on April 4, returning the evening of April 10. Deputies from Precinct 5 responded to a call concerning the welfare of the children at Williams’ apartment in the 9700 block of Katy Freeway on April 9. Upon entering the apartment, the children, who were alone, informed the deputies their mother was on a cruise.

Paramedics and Child Protective Services were subsequently summoned to the apartment to assess the children’s health and safety. Constable Ted Heap expressed relief that the children were safe but emphasized the need for accountability for those who leave children in unsafe situations.

Williams was arrested on charges of child endangerment the day following her return from her six-day cruise. Both children are now reportedly in the care of a relative. Williams was booked into the Harris County Detention Facility with her bond set at $25,000. Court records indicate she is due in court on Monday.
