Murder suspect jumps from airport parking garage

ALTOONA, PA – A man from Pennsylvania, suspected of murdering his mother, leaped from the second floor of an airport parking garage before his arrest, according to law enforcement officials.

Joshua Leyo, 30, admitted to the Valentine’s Day slaying of 61-year-old Maureen Mazenko, who was discovered with a neck wound in her living room in Altoona, as reported by the local police department. Leyo was not present at the residence when the authorities arrived. During their investigation, they discovered that Leyo had received medical treatment for a hand injury and had subsequently been traced to an airport.

On the same day, the Allegheny County Police Department received reports of a man jumping from the second floor of a parking garage at Pittsburgh International Airport. Shortly after, a man, later identified as Leyo, called for medical aid from a stairwell within the garage.

The Altoona Police Department, in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security and Allegheny County Police Department, confirmed that Leyo had jumped from the parking garage and was currently receiving treatment for severe injuries at Allegheny General Hospital.

Further investigation revealed that Leyo had allegedly been using Mazenko’s bank account, had taken a ride-share from Altoona, and had made purchases in the Pittsburgh area. During police interrogation, Leyo reportedly confessed that he had become agitated during a verbal dispute with Mazenko and had stabbed her in the neck.

Leyo remains under police watch at the hospital, awaiting extradition to Blair County. He faces charges of first-degree murder, third-degree murder, aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime with intent, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person.
