Naked Burglary Suspect Arrested After Miami Beach Chase

Police said the 21-year-old man struck a detective after fleeing a Harding Avenue apartment.

MIAMI BEACH, FL — A 21-year-old man was arrested Monday after Miami Beach police said detectives found him naked inside a ransacked North Beach apartment, chased him near a school and subdued him after he struck a detective.

Cristian Diazmore was booked on charges that include battery on a police officer, resisting an officer with violence, burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and resisting arrest without violence, records show. The arrest followed a burglary investigation at 7610 Harding Ave. and briefly drew police toward Temple Menorah, where a security officer reported a man trying to enter the school area.

Police said detectives went to the Harding Avenue building Monday while following up on a burglary case reported Sunday. Housekeeping staff told detectives a man had been looking through the window of the unit minutes before they arrived. When a detective entered, the apartment appeared to have been ransacked. The detective saw Diazmore at the end of a hallway, completely nude, according to the arrest report. Diazmore then fled into a room, closed the door and escaped through a back door, police said.

The search shifted a short time later when detectives were flagged down by a security officer at nearby Temple Menorah, at 620 75th St. The officer said a barefoot man wearing only shorts was trying to get into the school. Police said Diazmore was later seen behind 7440 Carlyle Ave. wearing red shorts and no shoes. Officers arrested him shortly before 3 p.m. near 74th Street, between Carlyle and Dickens avenues, after a chase through the area.

According to the arrest report, one detective found Diazmore in an alley by the school, but Diazmore ran again. Detectives chased him, and when one detective caught up, Diazmore struck him in the face with his left elbow, police said. The blow caused an abrasion and swelling and knocked the detective to the ground. The detective also injured his elbow in the fall, the report said. Police did not immediately release the detective’s name.

Police said Diazmore kept running and jumped a fence before detectives cornered him. The report said he then took a fighting stance. The injured detective punched Diazmore in the face, knocking him to the ground, and officers took him into custody. The report did not say whether Diazmore made a statement to detectives after his arrest. It was also not immediately clear whether police recovered any property from the apartment or whether anything was missing.

Diazmore was booked shortly before 7 p.m. Monday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County. He appeared before a judge Tuesday, and bond was set at $8,000. Court records cited in local reports show he was on probation in a prior case involving burglary of an unoccupied structure and two counts of petit theft. The new charges remained pending Tuesday, and prosecutors had not announced any additional counts.

The case unfolded in North Beach, a mixed residential and commercial area where apartment buildings sit near schools, houses of worship and small businesses. The apartment building on Harding Avenue is a few blocks from Temple Menorah and near 75th Street. The police account described a fast-moving response that began as a burglary follow-up and expanded after the security officer reported a man trying to enter the school property.

Authorities said the investigation is continuing through police reports, witness statements and court filings. Diazmore’s next court date was not immediately listed in the reports reviewed Tuesday. The injured detective was treated for facial swelling, an abrasion and an elbow injury, police said. No injuries to residents, housekeeping staff or school personnel were reported in the available records.

Diazmore remained in the court process after his first appearance Tuesday. The next major step is the filing review by prosecutors and any scheduled arraignment or probation-related hearing tied to the new arrest.
