Larian Game in the Works: Not Another Baldur’s Gate or D&D Sequel!

Austin, Texas – Larian Studios, known for their work on Baldur’s Gate 3, has hinted at a new project that is not related to the popular Dungeons & Dragons franchise. During a recent talk at GDC, studio founder Swen Vincke shared some insights into the upcoming game, describing it as something “new” that will still have a sense of familiarity while incorporating fresh elements.

Vincke expressed his excitement for the project, stating that the new game will challenge the studio to explore different tones, styles, and approaches that they have not tried before. Although he refrained from providing specific details about the game, he emphasized that it would be a significant departure from their previous work.

Addressing misconceptions about the game’s scale, Vincke clarified that their next project is not intended to overshadow their past achievements. While acknowledging the ambition of the upcoming game, he emphasized that it was part of their original roadmap post-Baldur’s Gate 3 and would not necessarily surpass the scope of their current RPG.

In addition to discussing the new game, Vincke also touched on the issue of layoffs in the gaming industry, attributing it to what he described as publisher “greed.” This stance reflects a growing concern within the gaming community regarding labor practices and the welfare of developers.

As Larian Studios continues to make strides in the gaming industry, fans and critics alike eagerly anticipate more details about their next project and the direction the studio will take. With a commitment to innovation and storytelling, Larian Studios remains a prominent player in the world of RPGs.
