Newborn baby found abandoned near walking trail

KATY, TX – A couple in Katy, Texas, made a shocking discovery during their morning walk last Saturday, finding an abandoned newborn baby on the pavement of Casa Martin Drive in northwest Harris County.

Daniela Fedele and her husband were on their regular walk with their 3-year-old daughter when they noticed a towel on the ground. Upon closer inspection, they discovered the towel was actually swaddling a newborn. The couple quickly called 911 and waited on the scene.

Video footage from a neighbor’s surveillance camera captured the couple’s horrified reaction upon discovering the infant. They subsequently took the baby to a shaded area under a nearby tree while they waited for emergency personnel.

Struggling to make sense of the incident, Fedele said she was shocked and upset that anyone could abandon a child. Despite the distressing situation, she expressed gratitude that they were in the right place at the right time to find the baby.

Fedele took the opportunity to remind others that Texas, like many states, has Safe Haven laws, which allow unwanted babies to be left at designated locations such as hospitals, fire stations, or police stations.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is currently searching for a man suspected of abandoning the child. The individual is described as a young, slim Hispanic or white male with a fair complexion, wearing a black shirt and possibly grey pants.

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect is being urged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.
