Nine people shot, two killed, in Martini Bar dispute

DORAL, FL – A violent dispute at a martini bar in Doral City, Miami-Dade County, Florida, turned deadly in the early hours of Saturday, resulting in two fatalities and seven injuries. The deceased include a security guard and the shooter, while a police officer was among the wounded.

The incident unfolded when a patron at the CityPlace Doral establishment pulled out a gun amidst a heated argument and shot the security guard attempting to intervene.

Doral City Police Chief, Edwin Lopez, commended the prompt and “heroic actions” of his officers, which he believes prevented the incident from spiralling out of control. Two officers, who were on duty at the time, immediately confronted the shooter.

In the ensuing gunfire, one officer was injured in the lower extremity but managed to return fire, killing the shooter. Despite his injury, the officer applied a tourniquet to himself and is now reported to be in stable condition.

Six bystanders were also caught in the crossfire, including one woman and five men. Two of these individuals are currently in critical condition at local hospitals.

The shooting is being investigated by several police agencies. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is probing the officer-involved shooting, while Miami-Dade Police are handling the homicide investigation. Doral City police are assisting both investigations.

Chief Lopez pointed out that a year ago, a multi-agency active shooter drill was conducted at CityPlace Doral. He believes this preparedness training was instrumental in preventing further casualties during this incident.
