Nor’easter Alert: Winter Storm Warning in New Hampshire – Brace for Heavy Snow and Strong Winds!

MANCHESTER, N.H. – A significant nor’easter is set to impact New Hampshire, bringing wet snow, heavy rain, and gusty winds from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday night. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the entire state starting Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening, with a coastal flood watch also in effect for Thursday morning.

The storm is expected to bring a long-duration period of wet snow and a wintry mix from late Wednesday morning through Thursday night. Initial precipitation is forecasted to begin as a light wintry mix in southwestern parts of the state before transitioning to wet snow in central and northern areas later in the day. The intensity of the precipitation will increase by Wednesday evening, with a transition to all snow overnight into Thursday, though some mixing may persist near the coastline.

Travel conditions are anticipated to be most challenging later on Wednesday through much of the day Thursday. Projected snowfall amounts vary across the state, with areas like the White Mountains, Mount Washington Valley, and the North Country expected to receive 12-18 inches or more of snow. In other regions, such as the Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee area, 6-12 inches are possible.

The storm’s heavy and wet snow, combined with winds gusting over 35-40 mph, may lead to scattered power outages. Coastal areas are also at risk, with concerns of minor to moderate coastal flooding and beach erosion as the storm passes offshore. After the storm passes, conditions are expected to gradually improve over the weekend, with a passing rain or snow shower on Saturday and partial sunshine on Sunday.

Looking ahead to Monday, a solar eclipse is set to occur in parts of northern New Hampshire, with the rest of the state experiencing a partial eclipse.
