VICTORVILLE, CA – A veteran sergeant from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office was seriously injured in a shootout at a Victorville gas station on Friday afternoon, according to official reports. The officer, who has served for 16 years, was shot twice but is expected to make a full recovery.
San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus confirmed that the sergeant’s injuries, sustained in the thigh and shin, were not life-threatening. He expressed relief at the prognosis during a press briefing held on Friday evening.
The incident occurred at a gas station located on Bear Valley Road in Victorville. The sergeant, whose identity has not been disclosed, was equipped with a body camera during the encounter. Surveillance footage from the gas station is also available for investigators to review.
The confrontation began when officials were called to the scene following reports of a man threatening a woman with a firearm. The suspect reportedly opened fire on the sergeant, who returned fire, resulting in the suspect’s death.
Following the incident, the injured sergeant was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
