Officer shoots teen murder suspect

FERGUSON, MO – A fatal shooting occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at a gas station in the suburb of St. Louis, Missouri, involving a local police officer, according to official reports released on Wednesday.

The incident unfolded just prior to 1:30 a.m. at a local convenience store. St. Louis County police detailed that Detarius Haynes, 26, and Joshua Campbell, 18, arrived at the gas station in a vehicle. In an unexpected turn of events, Campbell allegedly shot Haynes, who was later found deceased near the gas pump. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

Following the initial shooting, a police officer from Ferguson who was exiting the convenience store, engaged Campbell. The officer, whose identity remains undisclosed, fired at Campbell, who then fled the scene onto West Florissant Road. According to police reports, Campbell later succumbed to his injuries.

The 37-year-old Ferguson officer involved in the incident was not injured. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation by St. Louis County police.
