Officials Under Fire: Pacers Coach Goes Off in Game 2 Loss to Knicks

New York, NY – Following a tough Game 2 loss to the New York Knicks, the Indiana Pacers found themselves in a 0-2 hole in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Despite initially deciding not to make officiating an issue, Pacers coach Rick Carlisle could not contain his frustration during the game.

In the final minute of the Knicks’ 130-121 victory, Carlisle received two technical fouls and was ejected. He expressed his disappointment with several calls, including a crucial reversal of a double-dribble violation. This decision came after the Pacers suffered from a mistaken kicked ball violation in Game 1, costing them valuable points.

Carlisle revealed that the Pacers had identified 29 questionable calls from Game 1 but had chosen not to submit them for review. However, after the events of Game 2, they plan to send in their observations to the league office this time around.

The Madison Square Garden crowd played a significant role in creating a hostile environment for the Pacers. Despite efforts to stay focused on their game, Carlisle felt that officiating favored the Knicks due to their status as a big-market team.

In addition to the officiating concerns, the Pacers also need to address their defensive lapses. Allowing the Knicks to shoot a high percentage in the second half of both games has been a significant factor in their losses.

Players like Tyrese Haliburton have recognized that officiating is not the sole reason for their defeats. He mentioned the team’s need to improve their overall performance to have a chance at turning the series around.

The Pacers will also need to strategize on how to contain Jalen Brunson, who has been a force for the Knicks. Adjustments in their defensive matchups and rotations will be crucial moving forward in the series.
